Ah, tällaisia rasti-ruutuun-listoja mä kyllä rakastan.
BBC on listannut 100 kaikkien aikojen parasta kirjaa, jotka ovat päätyneet listalle yleisöäänestyksen tuloksena. Vaikka listaus on tehty jo vuonna 2003, on se edelleen aika kurantti, sillä se sisältää paljon klassikkokirjallisuutta raamatusta Jane Austiniin. Ainakin minua tällaiset haasteet innostavat löytämään uutta luettavaa ja kerryttämään vaivihkaa korvien väliin klassikkopääomaa.
Kirjablogeissa ahkerasti kiertäneessä haasteessa jujuna on lihavoida listasta jo luetut opukset ja merkata kursivoinnilla kesken jääneet ja sellaiset, joista on luettu pätkiä. Sannan Lukujonossa-blogin mukaan listauksesta kiertää legenda, jonka mukaan suurin osa ihmisistä on lukenut listasta vain kuusi kirjaa. Väittämällä ei taida olla perää ja varsinkin yhtään enemmän lukevien kesken luku on takuulla alakanttiin.
Näin Suomi100-juhlavuonna ajattelin, että olisi kiinnostavaa tehdä samanlainen listaus myös kotimaisista klassikoista. Uskallan tässä vaiheessa jo väittää, että itse olen ollut ansioituneempi ottamaan haltuun ulkomaista kirjallisuutta, vaikka kotimaistakin tuotantoa on jonkin verran tullut luettua. Samalla tavalla tartun suuremmalla todennäköisyydellä klassikkoon, kun hypetettyyn uutuuskirjaan. Nykykirjallisuuden suhteen taidan olla välillä jopa tarpeettoman nirso!
